Are you experiencing lower back or neck pain? If so, you may have a damaged spinal disc. Discs are the cushions between the bones of the spine (vertebrae) that enable the spine to move in various ranges of motion. A damaged disc in your back or neck can cause debilitating pain and agony. The most frequent disc problems include those in which a disc is compressed, bulges, ruptures, tears, or in which nerve roots become 'pinched' or irritated. As the injured disc is unable to cushion the vertebrae correctly, it loses its ability to absorb shock, thus putting more strain on the spine and causing further pain. As one disc becomes injured, the other healthy discs must compensate for the damaged disc. This will ultimately lead to further degeneration and misalignment of the spine.
Some of the more common vertebral issues that can lead to disc-related back pain include:
- Arthritis
- Scoliosis
- Bulging Disc
- Herniated Disc
- Degenerated Disc
- Stress Fracture (Spondylolisthesis)
There are many different types of disc problems which need to be treated with specific care and methodology in order to alleviate symptoms and avoid further complications. Chiropractic care for disc problems is specific and based upon the type of problem, vertebra location, and the severity of symptoms particular to each situation.
